Josie will miss her Mah Jonng Thursdays here with the ladies at River Bend. She has become quite proficient at the game and has won a few dollars each week. We have won $50 playing bingo over the last three weeks. The people of the valley of whom 95 % are of Mexican heritage have been a pleasure to meet and come in contact with in our daily lives. Having said that I will say they can also be the worst drivers in the universe. The interstate roads here in Texas are all very good. In the cities they use a system of flyovers and frontage roads that once you get used to them are very convenient . And having said that I have had three dings in the wind shield of the Jeep since we have been here since many of the side roads are gravel. On two lane highways if you come up behind a slower car they pull over onto the road apron to let you pass, but the rocks fly when they do this. We will not miss the rocks flying or the windy weather. It has been blowing for most of our stay. So much so that we installed covers over our roof vents so they would not rattle in the wind. One thing Jo cannot get over is how narrow the Rio Grande River is. So here is a parting shot of her at the river just 100 yards from our site.
Tonight is our last night here in the Rio Grande Valley. We head north, then west tomorrow. We are truly going to miss our next door neighbors Gary and Mary and their two dogs, Jude the White Lab and Gertie the Chocolate Wirehaired Pointing Griffon. Jude knows me well enough now that he will only bark when he is jealous that I pet Gertie first. Gary and I have played golf just about every other day weather permitting both here at River Bend and at other courses here in the Valley. We have gone out with them to many of the good seafood and barbeque restaurants here in Brownsville and over on Padre Island. But the best times have been our trips to Progresso Mexico. Of course the food is great, but the shopping is also very good and inexpensive. A great place to get your shoes shined. Booze at half the price as Texas both by the bottle and by the drink. Best margaritas ever. Josie will miss her Mah Jonng Thursdays here with the ladies at River Bend. She has become quite proficient at the game and has won a few dollars each week.
