We spent the beginning of our seventh year in the RV back where it all started, staying at the Holiday Travel Park in Virginia Beach. It was great catching up with all of our hometown friends. It started off with a great gathering at Lynn and Hutch's house where I forgot to get any pictures. Fortunately we were all able to get together again at Top Golf a few weeks later, where we had a great time and lots of laughs.
Full time friends, Bruce and Audra, were in town for just a short while and we were able to see them along with our longtime friend, Linda. Her husband Steve is no longer with us and he was greatly missed. Laura and Leon joined us on two occasions, Laura is recovering from a horrific accident where she was hit by a car while riding her bike. She is recovering well and making progress every day.
Josie was able to spend time with the Haddad family that she was a nanny for 16 years. As you can see from the pictures below, they are now young adults. Besides going to the movies with them twice she was also able to watch Eli run Cross Country for his high school
One weekend my friend Aaron and I met my daughter Missy at the University of Virginia for the Old Dominion, Virginia Football game. It was great being able to watch my alma mater play against Missy's. The next weekend Aaron treated us to a fantastic Shrimp Boil as we tailgated before the Old Dominion, East Carolina game.
In the whole month we were here, I think we only ate dinner at home three times. We wanted to catch up with all of our friends so meeting them for dinner was a great way to do that. We had dinner with Bob and Kathy four times and on two of those occasions we were joined by Aaron and then by John and Renee who came down from their home near Charlottesville. We had a great dinner at Watermans and we were glad they drove down to join us. One of the evenings we ate at home we pigged out on Blue Crabs, a must for every visit back east.
It was great seeing my old friend Al who has owned Famous Uncle Al's Hot Dogs for 35 years. One afternoon I was able to attend a retired teacher luncheon with folks I taught with for many years. It was great catching up with them. It was also nice to catch up with our friends Wick and Shannon and find out what was new with their family. I loved seeing their dog Mocha, who we have had the pleasure of watching many times over the years, she is still a sweetheart. On another evening we met Brooks and Michael for dinner. They were two of Josie's first toddlers she watched when she started being a Nanny. Their brother Will was not able to join us as he is attending James Madison University.
We were so busy I was able to get out birding only twice. One of those times was with my birding friend Ingrid who now lives here in Tidewater. We first met when she visited this area over 20 years ago from Texas. Besides Virginia I have birded with her when she lived in Texas and Colorado.
It was great playing golf with the homeboys. Mike, Hutch, John, Leon and his brother Mike. We were able to get out on the links 4 times during our visit.
We had to extend our visit by a week so that I could fly to Kansas City to see my brother, Tom who suffered a stroke. He is recovering very well and is already back home.
