We are keeping active while staying here in Arizona. After our trip to California for the Rose Parade, we were able to meet Josie's son-in-law Scott, who was in the area on business. Then my daughter Missy flew in for a visit. We were able to play golf, have a few Mexican dinners, and also took a long day trip to see the Grand Canyon. It was great to have her here. I think the old folks tired her out.
We have become good friends with a couple from Idaho Falls, Idaho, BJ and Karin. I have been playing a lot of golf with them and we are traveling throughout the West valley playing different courses. We had them over for a football playoff tailgate party and we then went to their place for the Super Bowl. They have two Pugs, Dinah and Lucy, who are always glad to see us. The week of the Super Bowl we were able to get tickets to Feherty Live on the Golf Channel. We arrived an hour before the doors opened and were able to get front row seats. It was a fun experience. The next morning we went to the Phoenix Open and were part of a record opening day crowd or 185,000 people. Tiger Woods was in the field so a lot of the folks came out to see him. He walked right by us as did Bubba Watson and we snapped pictures with our cell phones.
One Day we all went to the Wildlife World Zoo where we spent the day walking its spacious grounds and looking at the animals. On another day we packed into the Jeep and took a trip out into the desert mountains, north of the valley to an old resort called Castle Hot Springs. The main lodge burned down a decade ago but the main house and barns are still maintained. John F Kennedy was quartered here for rehabilitation after he was hurt on PT 109. It is rumored that when he was President he would meet Marilyn Monroe at the springs. Along the way we saw a few of the wild Burros that live in the area. We ended the day with a great lunch at the Old Rock Springs Cafe and each of us had a slice of their famous pies.
Josie is playing Mah Jonng a couple of times a week and has become one of the leaders in her water aerobics group. We try to hit the hot tub a few times a week and we both have been doing Tai Chi Gong, a stretching exercise. I have started a birding group and we go on a field trip once a week. On the day after the Super Bowl, we birded right across from the stadium. We even chased a Greater Pewee that was seen just a few miles away from the Resort. We have a lot of wintering birds here in the valley.
. Our time here seems to be flying by so fast.
