Nearing The End Of Our Stay In The Valley Of The Sun

We will be leaving Pueblo El Mirage in a few days. Our friends Karin and BJ from Idaho Falls left for home on March 15th and we truly miss them and their Pugs, Dinah and Lucy. It has been great meeting them and we will definitely stay in touch and hope to meet them back here next Fall. I have really enjoyed the  many rounds of golf with them all over the West Valley.
BJ and I went over to the Royals Spring Training facility one day and enjoyed watching the players go through the same drills you would teach little leaguers . We all went to a few Royals, games and BJ and I went over to see the Dodgers play one day. We even attended an Arizona State baseball game over in Tempe.
BJ was a Coors Light drinker when I met him but I have now converted him to Kilt Lifter from the local Four Peaks Brewery. BJ became our fruit delivery man, and brought us fresh  grapefruit, oranges, lemons and tangerines that grow all over the resort, free for the picking. Hard to believe that Josie and I had never had sushi before but Karin and BJ have changed that and we now like to order it as an appetizer. We have enjoyed many great meals with them and we made a pretty good team at the Irish Wolf Hound's Trivia Night. By far our favorite place to eat is Babbo's a fantastic Italian restaurant, that friends of BJ and Karin's ( John and Linda Hill) took us to one evening. Josie even went  there with the local ladies group and we chose it for BJ and Karin's last night here.
One Saturday I drove down to Tucson with a racing friend I met here at the local Canyon Speedway to see the World Of Outlaws Sprint cars. I was able to meet one of my favorite drivers, Rico Abrau. Rico's is a very good driver and he was last year's champion. His father is one of the better Napa Valley vintners. You might look up Abrau Vineyards on line to see how successful he is.
The next day Josie's son-in-law, Scott came into town for business and we met him at an Asian fusion restaurant in Scottsdale for dinner. This is the second time we have been able to see him during our stay here. A few nights later Scott made the trip across the Valley and joined us and the Bybee's for dinner at the Saddle Ranch Restaurant in the Westgate Entertainment District. A good time was had by all.
All of my birding group have left for the season and headed home or to other places. So I have been going out by myself and am using the trips to scout for the impending visit of our birding friends from Virginia and Montana. I have been taking my time and trying to get pictures of the birds. My patience has paid off and I am getting a lot of good pictures with my little Canon SX50. One thing about birding, it takes you to some beautiful places to see cool birds.
Ever since we have been in the Phoenix area and even last year when we were here everyone told us to visit the Musical Instrument Museum in Scottsdale. So with time running out this season we drove over to check it out. But first we had a delicious breakfast of Wine Country French Toast at a place we saw on Diners, Drive Ins, and Dives. Two slices of French Toast on top of each other with brie in the middle and a grape wine reduction syrup over the top. This fueled us up for the hours we spent at the museum. To tell the truth the museum is overwhelming. There are many exhibits and musical instruments to see at one time. We were tired when we left after 5 hours.
We are now preparing for visits from my cousin Mike and our friends from Virginia Beach, Bob and Kathy Loomis. We will then pack up and leave Pueblo El Mirage after a great but seemingly short 6 months. Bob and Kathy will follow us down to Southeast Arizona for 16 days of birding and sightseeing. So be sure to look for our next blog post as I hope to have many funny stories to tell about Kathy.

Yes you are correct sir. We had a marvelous time with you two and are looking forward to this fall. Karin and I are real glad that Josie held those two chairs for us at the hotdog night cause you never know where your tracks will lead. We thank you again for all you did for us and with us, and so do the girls!
