Quick Stop In Atlanta

We left Florida and drove north to Unadilla, Georgia for a two night stay. We are members of a Camping Club and the RV Park in Unadilla is our home park. We needed a day to do laundry and clean the RV after a very busy and fun time with friends in Florida. One evening in Unadilla we played Bingo and we both won the last game of the night, having the same number to win.

We then drove through and around Atlanta to Marietta, Georgia for 5 nights. I am sure all of you either know from experience or have heard about traffic in Atlanta. It took us four hours to drive 140 miles.

Over the years we have visited just about every tourist attraction in Atlanta, but we had never toured the World of Coca-Cola. So we made reservations for a private tour and had a great time. Betty our tour guide, who was from Zimbabwe, was a fountain of knowledge of all things Coke. One of the highlights of the tour was getting our picture taken with the Coca-Cola Polar Bear. After the tour we tasted many of the Coca-Cola products from all over the world. Most overseas Coke is very sweet because they make it with sugar cane and not corn syrup like they do in the USA. Some foreign drinks tasted very good but some tasted like mouth wash. We will stick with the original Classic Coke. We then had a late lunch at the Varsity, an Atlanta institution since 1928. Josie had the Pimento Grilled Cheese and I had the double chili dogs with onion rings. We finished up with a fried peach pie. Good Eats!
The main purpose of this trip to Atlanta was to attend a Braves game in their new Suntrust Stadium. We have been to all the Major League Baseball Parks and with this visit we have kept the streak alive. It rained all day but the rain stopped just before game time and they were able to get the game against the Pirates in before it started to pour again. The Braves beat the Pirates 5 to 2 and we got soaking wet walking the half mile back to the car after the game. There was over 5 inches of rain in the area while we were here.

On the recommendation of our friends Lee and Carol Thaxton, who used to live in Marietta, we had dinner at the Marietta Diner. The portions were huge and very tasty. Josie and I split the Meatloaf Dinner and still took some home in box. We then had Baklava Cheesecake for dessert. YUM!

Tomorrow we begin our drive to Virginia.
