St Augustine, Florida

We have spent the last week parked at Anastasia State Park, in Saint Augustine, Florida. On the drive down we pulled into a Flying J Truck Stop to fuel up and found a Winnebago Journey almost identical to ours.

By coincidence, our long time friends Bruce and Audra were also staying in the same park. We had just seen them in Virginia Beach early in September. They are headed to the Florida Keys where they will be camp hosting at a state park there. We kept busy the three nights we were there together.
We attended the St. Augustine Greek Festival and ate all kinds of Greek foods that only Audra was able to pronounce. While eating we were entertained by a children's dance group, who danced while wearing ethnic clothing. The next day we attended the Local Shriners BBQ cook-off and ate some not so great BBQ. We made up for that with a fantastic dinner at the Creekside Dinery on Bruce and Audra's last night in town.
We have been to St Augustine Beach many times over the years, and expected to move here after Josie retired. I bought the Jeep so I could drive on the beach in the mornings and look for signs of turtle nesting. We even bought a lot here and had plans to build a retirement home on it. But things have changed since we decided to become full time RVers. We sold the lot a few years ago and the house that has been built on the lot is a lot bigger than the modest one we were planning.

Even though we are still in the northern part of Florida we are beginning to see a few of the birds that are found in these southern latitudes. Reddish Egret, Common Ground Dove and Wilson's Plover to name a few. There are also a lot of Gopher Turtles all along the road coming into the campground.
